New Painting: Ollie

My new acrylic painting "Ollie" is a special thank you to the couple who sold us our farm, now known as Copper Knoll Farms. For those who do not know, we moved a little over a year and a half ago to the other side of our zip code. We had always hoped to remain in Aldine in our beloved first house that we spent years completely renovating. However, after almost 10 years, we sadly realized we would never be able to purchase more land around our home.

While exploring options of privately purchasing land around us to stay where we were, we also began searching for a farm in the area. We casually began our search in 2016 when our son was just a few months old but then seriously ramped up our search in 2018. We considered many different farms throughout Salem County with the help of our realtor, Andrew Ware. However, when we found and toured our new property, we knew we couldn't pass up the opportunity.

Although the property is not the conventional, open field format that many people think of when they hear the word “farm”, it has endless possibilities for our out-of-the-box thinking and the lifestyle we have always wanted to live as a family. It has miles of trails, abundant wildlife, and so many possibilities for our future!

We were very lucky to find not only an amazing property but also wonderful people to buy from. We worked together to make both of our big life transitions as smooth as possible. We are forever grateful to Henry and Susan for their friendship and giving our family the opportunity to purchase such a unique estate and this painting serves as a token of our gratitude.

Calendar Donation

Last week I met with the three Salem County FFA Advisors on Zoom to virtually present them with the donation from the 2021 Salem County Farmlands Calendar. I’m excited to announce that with your help I was able to make a total donation of $1,050! Each chapter will be receiving $350.

The donations will be used to help fund future projects, jackets, and even a chicken coop! I’m so happy to be able to help them during this challenging year when their typical fundraising events were not possible. A big thank you to my customers for your support and making this year the biggest one yet!

Salem Oak Time Lapse

I dug way back in the archives for work in progress photographs to be able to finally create this painting progression video of “The Salem Oak”. This painting was created as a tribute to the Salem Oak Tree for the 2015 Salem County Arts in Bloom Studio Tour. I worked from a photograph taken by my friend l, Janice Chassier, a fellow Arts in Bloom Artist. I loved the unusual perspective of the tree because it also included the Salem Oak Diner, a favorite dining spot for locals. I believe the title gives both landmarks recognition and allows the viewer to determine which one is most important to them.

The original painting, prints, greetings cards, magnets, and more are available on my website. Tap the photo for more information or see all available products here: https://www.kimberlyenglish.com/artwork/the-salem-oak

Workshops in New Art Gallery

Yesterday I held a socially distant painting workshop in my new gallery/teaching space.
We painted an apple on a framed piece of galvanized metal. After painting with our masks on, we all grabbed some fresh air outside and grabbed a quick group picture. What a fun afternoon with beautiful weather!

Yesterday also marked 6 YEARS since I began teaching painting workshops! Time sure is flying and I am so thankful for all my customers’ support!

Remembering The Pitman Art Stroll

This week would have been the Fifth Annual Pitman Art Stroll put on by Pitman Gallery and Art Center. Unfortunately, due to the impacts of COVID-19, they had to make the difficult decision to close.
While open, they did amazing things for the South Jersey art scene! They not only provided a place for local and regional artists to show their work, live music, and art classes; They also gave amazing advice and guidance. I am so grateful for all that they did and the opportunities they created for artists and the public to learn about and enjoy art.
Shoutout to Print Signs and Designs for their amazing quality signs throughout the years. They held up great through all the transitional weather September brings. I am so glad I purchased my banners to hold on to these special memories.

Look for the Silver Lining

This past week would have been the Salem County Fair but was cancelled this year for obvious reasons. Although it’s sad that the 4-H exhibitors didn’t get to show and celebrate their projects and the community didn’t get to enjoy all that the fair has to offer, it was a blessing in disguise. The severe weather we experienced throughout this past week with Tropical Storm Isaias and damaging thunderstorms would have been dangerous for everyone. Let’s all appreciate this silver lining and look forward to next year’s fair. “To make the best better.”

Salem Oak Anniversary

One year ago, the historic Salem Oak toppled over. The 600 year old white oak was where John Fenwick signed a treaty with local Lenni Lenape Indians in 1675. It has, and always will be, a symbol of our county. 🌳

In 2015, I created this painting of the mighty oak and the iconic diner for the Arts in Bloom Studio Tour. That year, the tour’s theme was artwork inspired by or made with the Salem Oak. (Clippings of the Oak were offered to artists to create with) I completed the painting in just one week and it is has been one of my favorite paintings for so many reasons. 🎨

The original painting, prints, and other products I make here in Salem County are available at: https://bit.ly/TheSalemOak

Locals, did you hear?! Hudock’s opens this week! Painting Progression: Caught in Another Country Moment

Introducing my new painting, “Caught in Another Country Moment” In Aldine, the dairy farmers of Triangle Farm would walk their cows down the street twice a day. Locals knew this daily ritual as “The Cow Parade” which would stop traffic at the intersection and cause commuters to wait for the cows to walk from the field to the barn for milking. I absolutely loved watching the cows walk down the road and would often make sure to be there around the time that they would walking. I took the reference picture for this painting in March of 2009. The farmers retired and the cow parade has since ended. I wanted to create this painting to honor the farmer’s legacy and preserve this special memory held by so many people. This is the second painting in the series and features the Thomas family house.

Featured in the Elmer Times

Thank you to the Elmer Times Company for featuring an article about my recent donation to the Penns Grove FFA Chapter through the sale of my Salem County Farmlands Calendar. I feel blessed to be able to share my artwork to instill pride in our beautiful agricultural county and financially help local youth farmer education programs.
If you ever feel like as an individual you can’t make a difference - think again! I’m a one woman show around here: I paint the artwork, take the photos, teach the classes, and make the products; all while raising two little ones. As always, thank you to those who actively choose to support me by engaging with my social media posts, buying my artwork, and attending workshops. It means more than you’ll ever know.
One of the most important things I have learned is that every little bit adds up to a lot! Everything is accomplished in its own time and as long as you’re consistent everything will get done. Just believe you can and you’re halfway there.

All of the original paintings hanging up behind me are available for purchase. Message me for details or go to: www.kimberlyenglish.com/shop
