MoorArts Gala Event

On January 12th, I took part in the MoorArts Gala Event at the Moorestown Community House. There was an amazing turn out - over 160 people attended the event to support the arts! The food was excellent and I really enjoyed talking about my paintings and watching the performing artists. Here is a picture from the event:

Engagement Signs

My husband's cousin, Bobby, got engaged to Annaliese this past July and she asked me to paint signs on vintage pallet boards that they were to use in their engagement pictures. Since Bobby proposed in Maine while on a boat ride, they recreated the proposal with a sign saying "I Said Yes!" She also wanted a sign painted with their upcoming wedding date. Below are just a few pictures from their engagement photo shoot. Thank you, Annaliese, for sharing these beautiful pictures!

Christmas Surprise

Although most of the artwork I create are landscapes, I do enjoy painting furniture and other non-traditional surfaces. My good friend Alan contacted me before Christmas with a gift idea for his mom. Alan and his wife, Candice, are expecting twins this coming summer and he wanted a primitive plate (his mother's home decor style) with this saying: "The only thing better than having you for a mom is my children having you for a grandma." The plate is pictured below, click to enlarge.

Most visual artists do not have the satisfaction of knowing the viewer's first reaction to a piece of artwork like most performance based artists do. I asked Alan if he could take a picture of his mom opening this sentimental present and he certainly delivered! On Christmas morning I had this video sent to me via text message:

Thank you, Alan, for sharing this video!

Memories of Maine

Here is my latest painting, Memories of Maine. Last year while we vacationed in Lincoln, Maine I took a picture of the first sunset from our dock. This painting is my rendition of that breathtaking moment. It turned out to be one of the most challenging paintings that I have completed. It was my first attempt to paint a sunset and water with ripples. Although I struggled along the way to find the correct color palette (I repainted the water 4 times!) I feel accomplished with this painting and welcome the challenge of another sunset or water scene in the future.

Transition

The Salem County Arts in Bloom was a great success!  A Whole New Light was the perfect space to exhibit my paintings and meet so many local art enthusiasts. I really enjoyed talking about my artwork as my first appearance as an English. Below is a picture from this weekend.

Many visitors recognized my new last name and instantly connected me to the English family of Aldine. I find this association exciting because most of the subject matter I paint is derived from scenes of Aldine. I feel that the transition into using my new last name as an artist will be easy and beneficial in identifying myself as a local painter (My new family is VERY large and well known in Salem County).

Thank you again for your support this weekend!

I am excited to announce that I will be a part of the 2012 Salem County Arts in Bloom Tour on May 19th & 20th. I will be exhibiting my landscape paintings at my mother's candle shop: A Whole New Light. Please come to view my artwork, I'd love to meet you!

Children and adult art class information will be available in the Fall/Winter Class brochure. Prints are always available for purchase exclusively at A Whole New Light.

My good friend, Janice Chassier, of Mudhen Pottery will also be exhibiting and selling her one-of-a-kind hand thrown ceramics. Be sure to stop out!

Hiatus

It has been a while since I have posted a blog and I thought I would provide a reason for the drought - I'm engaged! Two days after my last post, my boyfriend asked me on his 27th birthday to marry him. Needless to say I've been a bit distracted from the art world. A lot of plans are in motion and I am looking forward to getting married. I honestly never thought the day would come but you know what they say about saying never!

Recently we had the opportunity to get our engagement pictures taken with one of my friends from college, Don Macavoy. Don and I met my first semester as an art education major at Rowan in 2-D Design and we have been friends ever since. It is a great experience to work with someone who you know on many levels. Don and I have worked on artistic projects together, have critiqued each others' work, and of course have cheered each other on through our endeavors.

I have a lot to look forward to this coming year and this has given me a new outlook on my professional art career.  Be sure to check out some of the shots and click on the link to Don's website to see more of his work.
